The Process

Website design is a cooperative process between the designer and the client. You have the concepts, language, and maybe even images that I combine into the final product. Besides using my creative talents, I use my intuition inspired by our initial consultation to transform the words you have said into form.

This collaborative process really hones you in on your organization's essence. Not only will you have a pointful website when we are finished, but you will probably have a few things on your To Do list checked off.

Appointment

When you express interest in a website, I set up an appointment to meet with you by phone or in person. I make any necessary long distance calls.

Initial Consultation

We talk for 1/2 to 1 hour. In that time, I assess your requirements and answer any questions you may have. This is completely free and puts you under no obligation.

Proposal

I send you a bid on the project that includes a worksheet so that you can clearly estimate costs for the entire project.

Barter

If we are doing a barter, I find it better to receive at least one of your services first, as that informs the design of your project.

Initial Payment

Once you accept the bid and I receive a minimum of 50% of my bottom line costs, I begin producing a first draft of your website. I create an architecture with sample pages for your approval. At this point, if you do not already have a domain name and / or a webhost, we will work together to secure them. This would also be the time to schedule an optional photo shoot and also to begin drafting your keywords and description for the site (see the Resources section).

(Please note - if you are hiring me to also do a print media piece, such as a business card, we will probably produce that first so that we can use elements from that design to parallel the website.)

Fine Tuning

Once you feel confident with the overall architecture and sample pages, we will work together to flesh out the remainder of the site. Very likely, I will submit numerous drafts to you until you are satisfied with the end product.

Project Completion

At project completion, the balance of my pay is due. You will receive a CD-R with all of the website and print media files. The length of the project is dependent upon many variables, including our collaboration. Your site could be up and running in anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months. Most can be ready in a week or two, if all the necessary elements are readily available.
